Developing Gospel values, a commitment to service and strong academic skills.
What are the ideal conditions for plant growth? How does a steam engine work? Where do physical traits come from? What is the best laundry detergent to use? Why is the environmental balance of the earth so important? These questions and many more are answered at the science fair!
St. Anthony School hosts its Science Fair in the spring. It is open to all students 5K-Sixth Grade. Grades three through six are required to participate.
The purpose of the Science Fair is three-fold:
*Encourage students to develop greater interest and awareness of science
*Develop skills in critical thinking, research, and problem solving
*Develop interview and public speaking skills
Students are also expanding technological adeptness as much of project selection and research is completed through various on-line resources.
There are four judging categories with three age divisions within each one. Categories are: LIFE SCIENCE, EARTH SCIENCE, PHYSICAL SCIENCE, AND CHEMICAL SCIENCE.
Students may enter individually or as a team. A team of judges will rate projects by age divisions within a category. A rubric-driven score will determine a I, II, or III rating. Multiples of the same rating can be recognized within a division.
St. Anthony students continually present outstanding projects. Each year the school enjoys 79%-85% participation. When the 4K and 5K displays are included, the percentage increases to about 90%.
Our students are challenged to become the scientists, researchers, inventors and innovators of the future!
